My journey in developing an intimate relationship with the Lord was secondary through much adversity, trauma, and life-altering circumstances. At the age of 30, I found myself at odds with God as the future of my newborn child born with life-threatening congenital heart defects was at stake. My oldest daughter, now 16 was born with multiple rare congenital heart defects. As I surrendered my will to the Lord, he began to show me a way for her overall health and wholeness. Four open heart surgeries later and through the grace of God, she is a thriving 16-year-old who is living with a mended miraculous heart. This pivotal moment changed my life and my faith journey as I embraced a true miracle happen before my eyes. After many physicians told us it was impossible, God sent us miraculous hands that could make it possible. Not shortly after this I surrendered my life to Christ and continued on my journey to encounter him daily. Then, in December of 2012 our community of Sandy Hook, CT was victim to a senseless act of gun violence, taking many innocent children from our lives. In this, I was able to find Christ to help heal my heart and release any burdens of survivor guilt that I carried. What I have learned as a faithful believer is, adversity will always be part of our journey, but with Christ by our side, the journey is possible. With that, I use our story to inspire and lead my students, friends, and co-workers on their own journey toward healing, sanctification, and holistic well-being. Despite more trials in the last 5 years upon our relocation to Wilmington, NC, I have found my walk to feel lighter with Christ by my side even amidst a diagnosis of breast cancer, working through relational difficulties, and my own self-resilience.
