My first mission trip to Nicaragua last summer was an event that changed me. I thought I would join the group heading down to Chinandega to help out with my language skills in Spanish, but the people there helped me to open my eyes and my heart. Through unplugging from technology and joining with other believers to lay the ground work for a school in a town without access to public education, I felt God's presence in a palpable way. I began seeing with a filter of love and renewed compassion, a gift that I was not expecting. This experience ignited a passion in me to always be on the lookout to serve. I realized that I don't need a mission trip to be God's hands and feet.
