Don Rockey

I am a human. This may seem like a silly way to start my profile, but it is a truly Christian-way. I am not perfect. I have made my share of mistakes in my life. Many of those mistakes that I made I thought that I knew better than God what was right for me. He has shown me in these times of my arrogance that He and only He is right and all knowing. It is also reassuring to know that thanks to Jesus we don’t have to be perfect. We will make mistakes. When I have strayed away from His guidance, I have found my way back to Him and his teachings. I find His impact in my life on a daily basis, but two events really defined my life. The first one was in my wife and my efforts to start a family. We tried for several years with no luck. My wife finally got pregnant and then during a routine checkup we got the awful news that the baby had died. God showed His glory from the outpouring of people who told us that they had a similar situation and to keep Faith in His plan. God ended up blessing my wife and I with three wonderful children. The second event was in the professional realm. After being offered a middle school teaching job, the school came back and said they could not offer the job at the current time. Due to this issue, I was able to refocus my efforts to college teaching and to my undergraduate department chair. I was offered a job teaching at Ole Miss while I worked on my doctorate. It was the best thing that happened to me. I know God has placed me where He wanted me. I also met my wife during this time. I am now working with Faculty Commons at Coastal Carolina and teaching a Bible Study class for college students. These are two things that I did not think I would ever do. God has decided to us me in a different way than I planned.
