James Nimnicht

An an only child I spent countless hours working, playing, and listening to music by myself. From an early age I set my heart on becoming a professional baseball player and toward that end I spent every minute I could find practicing, running, throwing, batting and even reading about baseball. To say it consumed me would be putting it mildly. Therefore, when I got injured and lost my "devil may care" attitude, I also lost the edge I needed to compete at the highest level. That was devastating to me and changed my entire life. About the same time, a personal relationship ended and I found myself afloat with no direction, no guidance and certainly no meaning in my life. Since I was a good student I channeled my efforts into school. By default I chose a major and by accident I went for an MBA rather than a Law degree. Weeks prior to graduation a friend asked me what I was going to do when I received my MBA and since I didn't know I asked him what he was going to do. He said he was going to teach at a community college so I said, "yea, I think I will do that too". By accident about one month later I was actually hired by a new fledgling community college. Given that I had no preparation for teaching whatsoever and had never taught a class in my life this was quite a step of faith on their part. For my part, I figured the worst that could happen is that they would fire me and I would go get a job finishing cement. During my second week at the school I made plans to go bar-hopping on Friday night with a new friend only to then be invited by my boss to attend a Bible study. Although the Bible study was not in the least bit interesting to me, because my boss invited me I decided to attend. That night I made the choice to follow Jesus 100%. Although I wasn't a church person at the time, I just knew that making the choice to become a Christian was the smartest move I ever made. Soon thereafter I began to realize that all of the accidents in my life were there for a purpose and were all designed to lead me to a fulfilled life of Christianity.
