My name is Kelly Gomez Johnson and I am a wife and mom to two girls. I have been an educator for almost 20 years and at the university for over 12 years. I absolutely love my church family and my husband and I lead our high school Youth Group. A little about my story: I was born a cradle Catholic and for many years I was going through the motions. My family went to church when it was convenient, I attended Youth Group in high school, and while I believed in God and practiced my faith, I did not have a relationship with Jesus. He knew me, but was waiting for me to truly get to know Him. At 19 during my first month of college, my life fell a part. I lost two grandparents and my dad left our family. Everything was in shambles and I didn't know how to fix it and just wanted to escape. Everyone and everything was a mess. Along with that, I was facing new temptations in college and a fork in the road. I vividly remember contemplating which path I wanted to take--the one that led me to numbing the pain or the path that led me to church. By the grace of God, I went to church. I look at so many pivotal moments after that choice that changed the entire trajectory of my life and little by little has connected me more to Jesus and to my passion for my Catholic faith. Becoming an educator, both at the high school level and now in higher education, I see so many opportunities to put my faith in action just by the way I interact and advocate for people. I believe every single person has human dignity and just one piece of that is the human right to be educated and loved. This is my calling. While I am certainly a sinner in a broken world who strives for perfection and often gets lost in the seduction of busyness, I seek to know the presence of our Creator each day and fearfully remember that His plan is bigger and more powerful than my plan could ever be. I'm grateful to be in the position that I am in and to be able to learn and grow with the incredible people the Lord has put in my path. He is so good!
