"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.'" (Matthew 18:21-22)
Friends describe me
As analytical, reserved, organized, responsible, honest, loyal. Sadly, probably a bit on the boring side!
Growing up, I would have said basketball and tennis. Now, more family, history, reading, travel, hiking, ping-pong and following my favorite sports teams (Baltimore Orioles, Washington Wizards, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Flyers and UNC Tarheels)
Fantasy dinner guests
Abraham Lincoln Sports heroes such as Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer, Cal Ripken, Wes Unseld, Johnny Unitas, Bert Jones, Peyton Manning, Phil Ford, James Worthy, John Lucas, Tom McMillen . . . College basketball coaches such as Dean Smith, Roy Williams, Lefty Driesell, Gary Williams . . . Jesus of Nazareth
Best advice I ever received
Try and survive. (From one of my Ph.D. dissertation advisers at UNC-Chapel Hill)
My undergrad alma mater
Old Dominion University
My worst subject in school
In college I drove
A 1970 Volkswagen Beetle (blue)
If I weren't a professor, I would
Possibly be a CPA working for a nonprofit organization, or perhaps an attorney.
I read The Wall Street Journal. Beyond that, I enjoy reading biographies about historical figues and college basketball coaches.
Most Starbucks flavors
Nobody knows I
collect vintage sports cards, mainly baseball and basketball, from the early 1970s. I love the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Bullets cards!
My latest accomplishment
I have had several teaching cases published in the last few years. These cases relate to US and international financial reporting standards and practices. The cases are aimed at helping students develop a better understanding of these standards and practices. In 2015, I received a teaching award sponsored by the Student Government Association here. I appreciated being recognized by the students.
My current research continues with the focus on developing teaching cases in the area of US and international financial reporting standards and practices.
