I was born and raised in China during the cultural revolution years. All the music I heard and learnt was basically slogan-yelling. I never knew that there were songs that actually resonate with men's hearts. One day, CCTV accidentally put on a short piece of Christmas music. It entered into my ears and stuck in my mind ever since, but that was it. I did not have another chance until several years later. In the late eighties, I earned my PhD in Beijing. Then I actually came over to the US as a researcher. One of the first difficulties I faced was how to get around. My roommate was a year ahead of me coming to the US. He already had a car at the time and he was kind enough to give me rides for necessities and for luxuries. To accompany him, I started going to a local church. There, I was submerged in the music and songs of the kind I once heard on the CCTV years ago. And there, I was shocked and attracted by a totally different kind of teaching! The Word of love and forgiveness, the warmth of people's unfeigned kindness, and the power of the Spirit, '¦'¦ my heart melted. I turned to Christ, my Savior, my Lord!
