Since I was a junior in college, I am a John 3:16 Christian. As Baise Pascal said, I had a God shaped vacuum inside that could only be filled by Jesus Christ. I am a fan of the Apostle’s Creed and to C.S. Lewis’ interpretation of mere Christianity. We are born sinful. God is righteous and when we are tried for our tresspasses, punishment is deserved. But God is also loving. So he sent his Son Jesus Christ to earth to both teach about His Father and to be a sacrifice for our sins. If we repent of our sins, accept Christ’s sacrifice as payment, and with assistance of the Holy Spirit follow him forever, we are Christians. Even though I had a lot of questions about Christianity as a college student, I knew I needed a Savior. Faith in Christ is enough to be a Christian. Since I am a nerd, I wanted more information. Since becoming a Christian, I have studied scripture and apologetics. Stephen Hawking, not a Christian, said something surprising. He said nothing in physics is ever proved. We simply continue to collect evidence. Drop a pencil and you have more evidence there is gravity. Even though I don’t think God will ever be proven like in a math theorem, I have spent a lot of time collecting evidence. As a result of my study, today I believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as much as I believe in gravity. The evidence for the truth of the Gospel is overwhelming being illuminated by scripture, science, philosophy, history, architecture and the human condition. There is part of Christianity, though, I might never understand. Why does God love me so much that He sacrificed His Son for me? It’s a love I don’t fully understand or deserve. When I open myself to it, I'm overwhelmed. It’s a love I can never pay back. It’s a love that compels me to serve, worship and glorify Him. And like a thirsty soul once lost in the desert who happens on an oasis with cool clear water, I want to share the good news with anyone who wants to listen.
