Until mid-20, I was indifferent-to-hostile to religion in general and Christianity in particular. So I ridiculed and despised Christians because they looked weak, lazy, selfish, and under the influence of "opium" as Mr. Marx once said. What really bothered me, though, was they seemed to be ignorant, non-scientific, and even anti-intellectual, expecting me to believe in their god without checking things out to see whether it's a real deal. Reacting to someone's intellectual challenge, I came to read Gospel of John (and then the whole book of Bible), and was happily surprised when I discovered God in the Bible was so different from the impression I had gotten from many Christians. Intelligent as well as loving God! So, I see no inherent conflict between my faith in Christ and my occupation as social scientist.
