W. Shane Walker

I grew up on a cotton farm in the panhandle plains of Texas. My parents taught me how to work hard and enjoy life. They also taught me about Jesus, and I began following Jesus in elementary school. I worked at a municipal drinking water treatment plant in high school and studied civil engineering in college. During my second year of graduate studies, I heard about the billions of people in the world that don't have clean water and sanitation. Thinking about Isaiah 61, which Jesus personalized (Luke 4), it seems to me that Christians should be collaborating to work on water problems. As I study the life of Jesus, He healed people physically and spiritually. As a follower of Jesus, I want to help do the same. So, I teach water and wastewater treatment, and I research low-cost treatment processes for clean drinking water and sanitation. And I am partnering with globally-minded organizations to help people physically and spiritually. My UTEP Page: https://expertise.utep.edu/profiles/wswalker2
